Riverside News

April 18, 2021

Dear Riverside Families,

We are excited to be welcoming back a large majority of students in all grades to our "four days per week" model starting in the morning, and I do want to remind everyone that with this change, we will have a significantly greater population of folks at Riverside during arrival and dismissal so we ask for your patience, flexibility, and grace as we work to make things as smooth as possible.

Perhaps most notably, the car line will likely be longer at both times, and it is imperative that no one drops off or picks up children with a vehicle anywhere except for the final spots closest to the gym where our assistants are waiting.  In addition, if any parents/caregivers need to walk to the building, please remember that you may only park in legal spaces -- which will likely only be available on the neighborhood streets around the school.

Three other important notes/reminders about the weeks ahead:

1) For the remainder of the school year at all of our elementary schools, we will no longer have "remote learning" as a daily option for students who are not in Cohort C.  In other words, if your child has a doctor appointment or is out of town, he/she will just be "absent" as in a normal year, and your child's teacher(s) will work with students if they miss any work or activities.  The only students who will be able to "live stream" will be those children in Cohort C as well as any kids who have to quarantine due to COVID illness or direct exposure.

2) We will be engaging in our fun, creative Cereal Box Domino Challenge the week of April 26-30 so please make sure that your child has brought in an unopened box of cereal by Monday, 4/26.  We will donate these to a local food pantry after our activity is finished.

3) "Picture Day" at Riverside is scheduled for Monday, April 26th (for Grades 3-5) and Friday, April 30th (for Pre-K through 2nd Grade).  We will be taking these photos outside in our interior courtyard on our new patio, though that means that if it rains, we will have to postpone.  Cohort C students are invited to come between 1:00 and 2:00 pm on either of those days to have their picture made.  Due to COVID concerns, we will not be taking our normal whole-class photos, but the photographer will be creating a "composite" photo of all children and teachers/aides in each class.

Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Mark Shelley
