Princeton Middle School News

Dear PMS Parent/ Guardian,

We hope this message finds you and your family in good health. Recently, the New Jersey COVID-19 Weekly CALI & Variant Report has indicated that our county is currently at a HIGH level of transmission of COVID-19.  Consequently, the Princeton Public School Athletic Health and Safety Committee and the Mercer County Colonial Valley Conference both supports restricting spectator attendance at athletic events. As you know, the pandemic continues to bring about challenges that our community is still navigating. Consequently, we hope to be able to ease our athletic spectator restrictions once they can be accomplished safely.  Please read the information below if you plan to attend Home or Away Princeton Middle School winter sport events this season.

Indoor Athletic Event Spectator Statement

As the winter indoor interscholastic sports season is set to commence, the superintendents, principals and athletic directors of Mercer County/ Colonial Valley Conference have collaborated to develop the following guiding statement.

Motivating factors:

  • Our priority is to keep our students healthy and our schools open, so our student-athletes can continue to play the sports they love.
  • Indoor athletic events present a far greater risk for the spread of Covid-19 than outdoor events.
  • Crowded gymnasiums/ venues could pose a profound health risk during times of significant Covid-19 transmission.
  • Spectator attendance rules should be based upon the guidance of public health experts and local relevant health data, which will be evaluated throughout the season.

As a result, the following spectator attendance guidelines will be emphasized by our CVC member schools:

  • Masks must be worn consistently and appropriately by all attendees and athletes on sidelines.
  • Physical distancing or 3 feet minimum should be practiced by all attendees.
  • No individual should attend our athletic events if they have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been around anyone who is suspected of having COVID-19.
  • Only students from the schools participating in the event will be allowed to attend, and family members of the student-athletes.
  • Each school has the right to implement spectator attendance limitations if it is believed to be appropriate or to ensure adequate physical distancing.

Spectator Plan for Princeton Middle School

Several factors have an impact on spectator capacity this season. Primarily, the size of the venue and the ability to encourage social distancing have guided the decisions made by the PPS Athletic Health and Safety Committee. Additionally, we have currently placed an emphasis on allowing only family members of student-athletes to attend games, due to the current HIGH transmission rate of COVID-19 in our surrounding area.

Plan For Home Basketball and Wrestling

  • Two family members per athlete will be permitted to attend.
  • PMS Students and children who are unaccompanied by parent, will not be permitted to attend.

Plan For Home Swim Meets

  • One family member per 8th grade athlete will be permitted to attend.
  • PMS Students and children who are unaccompanied by parent, will not be permitted to attend.
