Princeton Public Schools is pleased to announce new partnerships with Corner House Behavioral Health and the Princeton Family Institute to provide school-based mental health intervention on-site at both Princeton High School and Princeton Middle School.

The collaboration will provide a range of mental health interventions and create pathways for further mental health care for students manifesting escalating and persistent distress.

A Corner House clinician will be located at each school location two days a week, for a total of 10 hours of direct Tiered 2 and Tiered 3 support services that will include group and individual counseling sessions.

Students will be referred by PHS and PMS school counselors, the Substance Assistance Counselor, and the building administrative team based on identified needs that extend beyond a level of service typically able to be provided in the school setting. All referred students will be interviewed by the Corner House clinician to ascertain appropriateness for inclusion and will be required to provide confirmed consent, as well as a release of information, so that the school and Corner House can collaborate on the needs of the student and progress being made.

Funding to establish this partnership was identified through ESSER funds specifically earmarked to address the pandemic's impacts on students' social, emotional, and mental health. Thank you to Dana Karas, Director of School Counseling Services, and to Valerie Ulrich, Supervisor of Special Programs, for making this possible.

“We recognize the importance of providing enhanced mental health supports for our students and are thrilled to collaborate with our Princeton community partners," said Ms. Ulrich.

"We share the common goal of engaging and supporting youth in life-long healthy and productive living. This is our Federal American Rescue Plan funds in action, reaching students in a real and substantive way," she added.
