Science Department

From the study of seeds and plants in Kindergarten through accelerated physics, genetics, and organic chemistry at Princeton High School, we offer a full spectrum of science courses designed to prepare students for a changing world. We want to instill in students a love of scientific inquiry, enable them to meet challenges, and to persevere to find solutions. To successfully align our curricula with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS--NJSLS), we will design instruction and learning activities that center student questions, promote integrative learning across disciplines and build students’ capacity to communicate solutions as globally-minded citizens.

The New Jersey Student Learning Standards-Science are based on the Framework for K-12 Science Education that was released by the National Academies. The Framework suggested a 3-dimensional approach to science education allowing students to develop science and engineering practices (SEPs), an understanding of disciplinary core ideas, and thinking frames in the form of crosscutting concepts (CCCs). To address all three dimensions of the scientific disciplines, classrooms across PPS have students collaboratively constructing explanations for observed phenomena.
