PHS Device Collection 2025
As you may know, PPS students’ devices were purchased in early 2020. This summer, the Technology Department plans to replace the majority of devices districtwide. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. Below please see a detailed Device Collection Plan, preliminary information regarding the deployment of the new devices, and some Frequently Asked Questions.
DEVICE COLLECTIONS
Students, please make sure you backup all of your files either in your Google Drive or in your iCloud Drive prior to returning your device, so you will be ready to receive your new device later this summer!
Device collections will be held during PE classes based on the following schedule:
SENIORS: Tuesday, 6/10 and Wednesday, 6/11 in the Old Gym. (You will not be able to receive your diploma until you return your district equipment and/or pay for all fines.) Seniors will receive additional messaging soon with additional details and instructions.
NON-SENIORS: Thursday, 6/12 and Friday, 6/13 in the Old Gym
All students should check in with your PE teacher first before being directed to the collection stations in the Old Gym after attendance is taken.
If you will not be in school on the scheduled Collection days, please drop off your device and charger to the Tech Office prior to the last day that you are present in school.
INSPECTIONS AND INVOICES
Shortly after collection, the Tech Department will do an inspection of returned items. If you have the protection plan you will be billed for lost items, but damages will be covered. If you do NOT have the protection plan, you will be billed for damaged and lost items.
Here is a list of the parts with their replacement costs.

FAQs
I’m enrolled in a summer program and will need a device. Am I allowed to keep mine over the summer?
Students enrolled in PHS-sponsored summer programs may keep their devices until August 8, 2025, the final day of all summer sessions. These programs include:
1. PHS Summer Math
2. PHS Summer Science
3. ESY
4. PHS ESL
5. PHS Summer Counseling Program (e.g., College Essay Writing)
Rosters for these programs have already been submitted to the Technology Department. No action is required from students.
All students enrolled in the programs listed above will receive a separate email from the Technology Department confirming that you do not need to return your device in June. If you do not have an email confirmation from Tech before the device collection date, please make sure you reach out to the coordinator of your desired summer program.
I am a rising senior and may need a device to write my college applications over the summer. Can I keep my device?
If you are not officially enrolled in any PPS Summer programs, but are a rising senior with no other device to use at home, you may keep your device until 8/8. Please fill out this SUMMER DEVICE REQUEST form.
I’m signing up for an AP course, and my teacher has assigned summer work. How can I access the assignments if I don’t have a computer?
If you have a device at home, we would appreciate it if you could use your personal device.
If you don’t have a device at home, please make sure to provide your name and email address to your AP teacher. Once they submit a roster to Tech, you will be able to keep your device until your new device arrives.
I am taking PIRL over the summer and need a device. Can I keep my device over the summer?
Unfortunately, no. If you are a rising senior, you will receive your device first this summer and can begin working on PIRL then. You will have plenty of time to complete the program. Alternatively, you can also sign up for Racial Literacy to satisfy the graduation requirement.
If you are not a rising senior, you will have plenty of time in the next three years to complete the program.
I am not an upperclassman and may need a computer over the summer. Can I keep my computer?
Unfortunately, we are unable to support personal use of district-owned devices. However, if you fill out this SUMMER DEVICE REQUEST form, you will be given priority when devices are redeployed.
DEPLOYMENT OF NEW DEVICES
Deployment of new devices will begin with rising seniors over the summer. As soon as the first shipment arrives, the deployment schedule will be posted on the PHS website, and devices for all other students will be distributed shortly after. For the latest updates and additional details, please visit the “Summer Info” section on the PHS homepage starting in mid to late July, and be sure to check your school email regularly.
Our goal is to provide opportunities for every student to have a new device in hand by the end of August.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by this device update initiative. However, we are excited and grateful to the Board of Education and the community for their continued investment in our students’ learning experience. Their support allows us to provide the tools necessary for a more connected, modern, and engaging learning environment.
Thank you,
Tod MacDonald
