The Mathematics Department believes that every student is entitled to and deserves an excellent mathematics education that encourages each student to achieve at a high level. We believe in creating classroom discourse that promotes and values mathematical reasoning; creating, critiquing, and revising arguments; and engaging in collaborations that position students as competent “doers” of mathematics (Berry, 2018). We believe that by inviting students to engage in this deliberate practice, being transparent about the end value of the practice, and providing constructive feedback enhances student thinking and learning (Hattie, 2016). Ultimately, the goal of our department is to support and develop students’ identities as learners of mathematics (Anderson, 2007).

Hence, we include the mathematical practices: making sense of problems and persevering in solving them, reasoning abstractly and quantitatively, constructing viable arguments or critiquing the reasoning of others, modeling with mathematics, using appropriate tools strategically, attending to precision, looking for and making use of structure and repeated reasoning to foster engagement and grow their imaginations through academic rigor.

Business and Technology

The Business and Technology department offers a wide range of classes. The Department’s real-world application prepares students for many phases of their personal and professional lives. We are dedicated to preparing students for a rapidly changing world by expanding student’s knowledge and skills in business, computer and information technology.

Through our Business and Technology courses students will be able to:

  • Make intelligent business/economic decisions as voters, consumers, and workers
  • Transition into a college major in business or technology
  • Enter the job market upon graduation
  • Obtain employment while attending high school and college
  • Employ ethics in personal and career decision making
  • Gain financial literacy
  • Understand the business aspects of all careers
  • Develop an entrepreneurial spirit therefore, providing both academic and occupational benefits.

The Business department is dedicated to preparing students for a rapidly changing world through a rigorous business, computer and information technology curriculum. We believe the knowledge, skills and ethics taught are necessary for active, life-long participation in a global, informational society.
