Dear Johnson Park Families:

It is with great pleasure that I write to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year.  I hope that your summer has been filled with fun family activities while enjoying the wonderful sunshine (and heat!). This is always one of my favorite times of the year! I love the excitement of beginning the new school year—meeting new colleagues, welcoming our students and families, and preparing for the adventures that lie before us! 

The faculty and staff at Johnson Park are working hard to see that your child(ren)’s learning experience is a successful and happy one. Our faculty and staff have an exciting year of learning planned. Your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher will be in communication with you to share specific information about their class—daily schedule/routines, expectations, highlights for the school year, etc.

Once you have created your PowerSchool account, you can also create a Canvas account to access your teacher website pages. You can find instructions at one of the following sites:

Both accounts will support you and your child(ren) this school year. If your child(ren)’s teacher uses any other platforms to communicate home (Class Dojo, Google Classroom, etc.), they will share that information with you in their welcome email.

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 6, 2022. The school day begins at 8:25 am. Student arrival to Johnson Park Elementary School begins at 8:00 am.

We have enclosed a condensed summary of items that are important for the start of a new school year. We will continue to provide updates to you via email or phone using our SchoolMessenger system. Please be sure that your phone number and email address is always up to date. If you need to make any corrections, you can do so in PowerSchool or you can call the Main Office (609.806.4240).

Johnson Park’s Back to School Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 22, 2022. This event will in-person for the first time since 2019! You will have the opportunity to meet your child(ren)’s teacher(s) as well as learn about the grade-level curriculum, specials, and activities. More details will be provided as we get closer to the event. 

JP has an amazing Parent-Teacher Organization (P.T.O.) that is inclusive and active: All parents are automatically members, and we welcome your involvement. It is a wonderful way to support your child(ren)’s experience at JP—both academically and socially!

ORIENTATION: Pre-K 

Pre-K will host an Open House on Thursday, September 1 from 8 am to 9 am. You will receive further information the week of August 29.

NEW FAMILY OPEN HOUSE

On Thursday, September 1 from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m., we will host an Open House for our New Families. If you are unable to attend the program, please reach out to the Main Office and we will coordinate efforts to get all materials to you.

Our agenda for this event includes:

  • Meet Principal Siso Stentz, Nurse Liz, and other critical staff members!
  • Meet our PTO leadership!
  • Enjoy a tour of our beautiful school, led by our student ambassadors.

 

BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT

Back-to-School Night will be an in-person program on Thursday, September 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Johnson Park Elementary School!

The schedule for Back-to-School Night is as follows:

Grades 3 – 5: 6:45 – 7:30 pm

PreK-- Grade 2: 7:45 – 8:30 pm

SCHOOL VISITORS

While COVID restrictions are lifting and we are slowly getting back to normal, we will continue to monitor community levels of transmission when permitting visitors to enter JP. Most importantly, we will not permit visitors in the building who are sick or displaying symptoms. We hope that we can allow our parents and families to join us through the school year to celebrate our students and their work but will be mindful of implementing protocols to keep everyone healthy and safe. Flexibility will be key for all of us! If you would like to make an appointment, please reach out to the staff member directly by e-mail or call our main office at 609.806.4240.

 

SCHOOL NURSE



If you have any medical dietary questions or concerns (i.e. food allergies or intolerances, Celiac, diabetes, or other medical considerations) about your child eating breakfast or lunch provided by the school, please reach out to your school nurse prior to the first day of school. Nurses will be able to respond to you on August 30, 31 and September 1 (before school begins) as students will have the option to pick up breakfast and/or lunch on September 6, the first day of school (even if you pack a lunch from home).

 

SCHOOL LUNCH

 

We serve breakfast and lunch at Johnson Park Elementary School. Please click here for more information about prices. If you qualify for free or reduced lunch, we ask that you complete the form prior to the start of school.

 

AFTERSCHOOL CARE 

The traditional afterschool care program through the YMCA will be offered at all four elementary schools this year. Students who participate will remain at JP from 3 pm to 6 pm. Click here for more information.

 

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

PLEASE NOTE: There is a new roundabout in front of Johnson Park Elementary School at the intersection of Rosedale Road and General Johnson Drive. Please use caution as this will be a new traffic pattern for our buses, car riders, and visitors into Princeton.

 

ARRIVAL PROCEDURES: Arrival time at JP is 8:00 am. Students will arrive at Johnson Park School by car or by bus. We strongly recommend our students take the bus as much as possible to reduce the number of cars arriving to JP. We also encourage bike riding or walking whenever possible! If parents are driving their students to school, be sure to use the car lanes—please keep the bus lane clear at all times.

 

BUS DISMISSAL

1.     Students will be dismissed from their class and escorted to the bus line-up starting around 2:55 pm.

2.     Staff members will make sure students get on the correct bus.

3.     Once all bus riders are secure, the buses will be released to leave JP.

 

CAR DISMISSAL

  • We are asking all parents to remain in their car while picking up their child from JP. Please post your child’s first and last name in the car’s window. THANK YOU!!**
  • If you plan to pick-up your child regularly and will not use your school bus this year, please call the main office so we update our records.
  • Be sure to communicate your dismissal plan with your child! Some students get very nervous when they are not sure how they will get home.
  •  There are two car lanes available for dismissal: the middle lane (next to the bus lane) and the far left lane (behind the parked cars and close to the curb). Please line up behind the car in front of you.
  • Please display your child’s name in your window so that JP staff can easily read the name.
  • Please be patient—this process could take a few minutes.

 

PARENTS WHO BIKE OR WALK TO JP TO PICK UP THEIR CHILD

1.     Please pick up your child at the green top area or in the gym if there is inclement weather. 

2.     Try not to block the sidewalk where our students are trying to find their bus. 

 

EMERGENCY CHANGES TO THE DISMISSAL PROCESS (BUS RIDERS)

All students will take their bus home at dismissal. However, if you need to pick them up instead, please:

Email your classroom teacher and Michele Cowell (michelecowell@princetonk12.org) and/or Marilou Garcia (marilougarcia@princetonk12.org) the night before so that we can make the appropriate adjustment.

In the event of an emergency, please call the main office (609.806.4240) before 1 pm. In this circumstance, do not send an email to your teacher as they will be teaching and not looking at emails. This will ensure that we will communicate successfully to the teacher before dismissal.
