Social Studies

Social Studies classes in the Princeton Public Schools develop students' capacities for creativity, collaboration, and independent thinking.  Students engage in inquiry, research, analysis and debate, thereby becoming empowered and empathetic local, national, and global citizens.

Through Social Studies classes, students learn to:

• Analyze primary and secondary sources to determine their arguments, audiences and biases.  

• Draw connections between social studies (i.e., history, geography, sociology, law, politics, economics, and psychology) and other disciplines (e.g., art, music, literature, world language, science, technology) to develop an appreciation and understanding of the diversity of people's lived experiences in our world. 

• Perceive the roles that power and privilege play in shaping society and determining the voices that dominate historical narratives.

• Seek multiple viewpoints on complex events to challenge traditional perspectives.

• Master technology as a tool for collecting, organizing, analyzing, and communicating information.

• Identify and address societal challenges through individual and group effort. 

• Understand, comprehend, and critically think about how past events influence the present.
