Dear PPS Families,
Your student will soon have the opportunity to participate in a free weekly COVID-19 testing program funded by the State of New Jersey. The emphasis will be on unvaccinated students but vaccinated students will also have the option to participate.
To participate in testing, we ask that you complete the attached consent form and sign the HIPAA waiver for each student in your household. The portal will remain open until all interested parents have had the opportunity to sign up.
The New Jersey Schools COVID-19 Screening Testing Program is supported by the CDC and many schools in New Jersey are participating. Using multiple mitigation strategies—masking, physical distancing, daily health screenings, and surveillance testing for COVID-19—is the most effective way to keep our schools open. We are pleased to be able to offer this non-invasive testing option to students at no cost.
PPS will partner with Mirimus Inc. to test saliva samples from students. Students will spit into a tube and samples will be combined into batches, or pools, and then screened for the coronavirus. Results of the pool testing will be available within approximately 48 hours. This method allows early detection of COVID-19 in pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic individuals and is an effective risk mitigation strategy that helps prevent the virus from spreading in schools. For more details about pool testing, click here.
The program will use non-invasive, self-collected saliva samples. Samples will be processed using PCR analysis, considered to be the most accurate type of testing. To find out more about how your student will provide a sample, click here.
In addition to student testing, all unvaccinated PPS staff members are tested twice a week in a program that began on October 5.
Multiple mitigation strategies have proved effective in reducing positive cases in our schools. Thank you for all you are doing to follow PPS health protocols.

PPS would like to thank all the parents and guardians who have filled out paperwork allowing their students to participate in the free weekly COVID-19 testing funded by the State of New Jersey.
The opportunity to sign up has been extended. To enroll your student, please complete this consent form and HIPAA waiver. The portal will remain open until all interested parents have had the opportunity to sign up.
If a pool test result is negative, then all the samples can be presumed negative with the single test.
If a student is in a pool that tests positive, the lab will be able to identify which sample is positive within hours. If an individual is identified as positive, only that person will isolate.
There will be no quarantines for PPS students until after contact tracing is complete. Unvaccinated students will quarantine only if they have been in close contact with a positive individual.
Pools will either be random groups of 24 samples, or in some instances the pools could be a specified group, such as a sports team. More information about on-site testing dates at schools will be available soon.
