Our School:  CP is a neighborhood elementary school that welcomes family and community involvement. Within walking distance, it enjoys easy access to all the resources downtown Princeton has to offer. Our proximity to such unique resources as Princeton University, Princeton Public Library, the Arts Council of Princeton, as well as many other cultural and educational resources, provides opportunities for extensive enrichment experiences. Cultural celebrations, socials and STEAM expos all engage our parent and community members.

Our large campus offers multi-age playground space, soccer fields, basketball courts, a turtle habitat and working educational gardens. CP also has a strong and active Parent Teacher Organization which provides support to our students and faculty and enriches the sense of community.  They also work collaboratively with CP staff in offering after-school clubs, Artist-In-Residency programs and organizing numerous activities such as international food festivals, book fairs, field days and much more.

Our Instructional Program:  We offer a comprehensive curriculum based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Our approach is to guide instruction by considering our students’ diverse learning styles and accommodating all levels of ability through differentiation to reflect both cognitive and affective goals. Our students benefit from a very comprehensive array of support services, including English as a Second Language, Accelerated Intervention Services, Integrated Classroom Support and Resource Room. The program of study includes English reading/language arts, Spanish reading/language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, health and physical education, art, vocal (and instrumental) music, library and media skills and STEAM.

We began a Spanish Dual Language Immersion program in 2015, and it is now available for students in PK-5. Students receive 50% of their core instruction in Spanish and 50% in English. Programs such as this promote linguistic and cultural equity and promises socio-cultural competence for students by the time they move onto middle school. CP has been recognized as a Model Program for Spanish Dual Language Immersion by the New Jersey Department of Education.

Alongside our dedication to providing the most up-to-date and effective academic instruction for our students, our staff also is committed to addressing the “whole child,” recognizing the importance of a nurturing, empathic, equitable and joyful learning environment for all students. We encourage and promote the traits of kindness, cooperation and responsibility to each other and to the larger school, local and global community.
