Summer Science Program 2018

Accelerated Chemistry

This intensive six-week course is designed to prepare students in the following groups to take AP Chemistry in the fall of 2018:

  • Students who are under-represented in some of our higher level science courses (i.e., Black, Hispanic, economically disadvantaged and female students) who have been identified by their teachers as having an interest in science and/or the potential to succeed in AP Chemistry with the support of this class as preparation. Most of these eligible students are currently in 10th and 11th grade. A meeting with the Supervisor of Science, Edward Cohen, is required.

  • Students who want to take this accelerated chemistry class during the summer so that they can go directly into AP Chemistry in the fall of 2018. In the past, some students have taken an Accelerated Chemistry class during the summer at nearby private schools. This course offers an in-district option taught by a PHS chemistry teacher. Eligible participants are students who will be 10th graders in the fall of 2018 and will have a final grade in Accelerated Biology of an A- or higher, or an A in Biology.
