On Wednesday, June 8, 2011  at 2:00 p.m., a resource center devoted to the study of the Classics was dedicated to Dr. Robert Fagles at Princeton High School. At the dedication, students and teachers paid tribute to Dr. Fagles.

In 1997, when Dr. Fagles’ translation of Homer’s The Odyssey was first published, Princeton High School’s English department adopted his edition of Homer’s work as a required text for all ninth grade students.  At that time, the Princeton Education Foundation awarded the department a grant which funded the purchase of enough books so that the work could be taught to all freshmen at the same time.

Dr. Fagles, a Professor of Classics at Princeton University and a resident of Princeton, came to the high school on two separate occasions and read selected passages from his translation to the entire freshman class.

Because of the special relationship enjoyed by Princeton High School and Dr. Fagles, his death in 2008 prompted the establishment of a center which recognizes and honors the impact of Dr. Fagles and his work on Princeton High School students.

The Fagles Resource Center for Studies in the Classics is a repository of  inter-disciplinary resources which provides an academic focus for research.  The room is furnished with books, dvds, student art work, computers and a projection device.

It is located on the second floor of the library.
